November 2005 Newsletter

Hiya,

Are your kids bringing out the worst in you? Does the political situation in the country have you screaming at the TV? Did your team not make it to the world series and then fail to hang on to the first general manager in eighty six years who had put together a team that did win a world series?

Yikes! It’s been a tough few months for you. Well, you can’t just sit there on the couch forever, eating out of a bag of cheetos and feeling overwhelmed, out numbered, and melodramatic.

Dr. Don is prescribing a night out for you. You need a few laughs. And I promise them to you. Here are my public concerts through December beginning with a Boston area show for my poor Red Sox Brethren.

This Saturday I will be at Club Passim in Harvard Square, Cambridge. This legendary folk venue is among the most prestigious in the country. I am honored to play here annually. It is always a magical experience. To add to the magic this year my good friend Ana Eder Mulhane will be opening the show in what I believe will be her Passim debut. Grab your world weary friend and bring him or her to the city to see the show. It’s good for what ails ya. There are only 100 seats in this intimate venue so be sure to call ahead.

Saturday November 5th Club Passim 47 Palmer St in Harvard Square Cambridge Mass. 617 492 7679  www.clubpassim.org

The following week I will have my first public performance in New Jersey. The concert is being produced by Mr. John Weingart who is a DJ on WPRB in Princeton. His program is called Music You Can't Hear On The Radio and has been on Sundays from 7-10 Since 1974. He has played my music often for his listeners through the years. This concert is on the Pennsylvania side of NJ. If you know anyone who lives within striking distance of this show, please let them know about it.

Saturday November 12th Prallsville Mill Route 29, Stockton, New Jersey (609) 397-1826

The next week, in an attempt to accrue more frequent flyer miles, I will be returning to The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan Last December my son and I sold out our first night as headliners at The Ark. It was one of the biggest nights that we have had in tens years of performing together. We are very grateful to everyone who attended the show and helped us prove that we could do it. This is our return engagement. The December show was sold out in advance and many people were turned away at the door. Don’t wait till the last minute this time.

Saturday November 19th The Ark 316 South Main St Ann Arbor Michigan. 734 763 8587 www.theark.org

After Thanksgiving I will be making my first appearance near our nation’s capitol. On December 3rd I will be opening for Christine Lavin at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. Like Club Passim and The Ark, the Birchmere is considered among the handful of truly legendary folk venues in the country. (This is kind of like Don White’s tour of America’s snazzy folk venues, now that I think about it.) Anyway, this is a big deal for me. The man who books the venue likes what I do and has offered to help me try to build a fan base in the area. So, again, if you know any really influential people near DC, send them along and ask them, if it’s not too much trouble, to make me famous.

Saturday December 3rd The Birchmere 3701 Mt Vernon Ave in Alexandria Virginia. I will be opening for Christine Lavin. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. www.birchmere.com

My final public performances in 2005 will be in Worcester Mass. This one is relatively new to the schedule. On December 10th I will be doing two shows at Rotman’s Furniture. (Rotman’s, as everyone knows, is the crown jewel of America’s Snazzy folk venues) These shows will be recorded and will be played on WICN 90.5 FM and on the web at www.wicn.org at a later date. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Rotmans will give a $25 gift certificate per reservation. (This means that if you reserve 4 seats you get one gift certificate.) So be sure to reserve your seats in advance at www.virtuous.com

Saturday December 10th Two Shows 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM at Café Fantastique located inside Rotmans Furniture 725 Southbridge St (Exit #11 off Rt 290) In Worcester Mass. www.virtuous.com  For more info call 800 ROTMANS ext 4500

Holiday Gift Giving

Let’s see who can guess what Donny boy might suggest as the perfect holiday gift for your friends, enemies, family, neighbors, and probation officer. Hmmm. A three week vacation in the Caribbean? You are correct. However, you can’t afford that and your probation officer has to see you every week so he can’t go away for more than a couple of days. So it seems like your financial situation, in conjunction with your current legal quagmire, puts you in more of a CD/DVD gift giving situation.

Well lucky for you, all my CDs and my DVD are available on line at www.cdfreedom.com. You can order by phone by calling 800 937 3397. And for those of you that don’t want to order on line or use a credit card, there is a mail order form available at cdfreedom and at my website www.donwhite.net

News

Many of you know that I have been working on a collection of short stories for quite some time now. I just want to let you know that I recently completed what I hope will be the last story for this book. There is still a lot of work to be done, which is likely to take a few months. But the extremely time consuming phase of having to create something from nothing is now over. Most of these stories have already gone through the editing process once. The second time through should go relatively fast.

At some point in 2006 I expect to have a book for sale and I also hope to make the book available on CD. I really feel like I can bring something unique to the reading of my own stories.

The process of composing these stories has been equal parts exhilaration, exhaustion, and trepidation. The trepidation slides into my mind when I think that it is possible that I could have devoted nearly 4 years worth of precious free time to this book and I might be the only person who winds up liking it. Time will tell.

News #2

I am planning to film and record two live concerts in June 2006, hopefully at Jimmy Tingle’s theatre in Somerville. It’s a long way off but I just wanted you all to know that some things are in the works. The shows will hopefully produce a new DVD that captures my live concert as it has evolved over the past few years. I also hope to include as bonus tracks several clips from shows I have filmed over the years. There should also be enough new material recorded at these shows to get me started on a new CD.

Again, this is all preliminary information. There are many things that can change between now and June. Just wanted to keep you in the loop.

Thanks for the career.

Don
